My Dry Skin Essentials

Dry skin - group pic
It’s the middle of winter and that means cold, dry air that can wreak havoc on anyone’s skin and especially on those of us with dry skin. After battling my dry skin for my entire life, I’ve finally found the products that help soothe my dry skin. These products are ultra moisturizing but also gentle on my sensitive skin. I’ve found three face products, a body product, and a lip product that have helped my skin look great this winter.
Dry skin - FAB
First is my new holy grail moisturizer, First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream. This is both a face and body lotion but I primarily use it on my face. This is the first moisturizer I’ve used that has gotten rid of my flaky skin. It keeps my skin hydrated and smooth all day and night. I use it night and day and it never feels greasy or too heavy. I currently have two back ups of this moisturizer so I never run out. It is that good.
Dry skin - oil
Now even though the Ultra Repair Cream is amazing, I felt I needed a little boost at night to really hydrate my skin. I first heard about the Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil from Jaclyn Hill, one of my favorite Youtubers. I decided to pick up a travel size at Sephora to try it out and it has made a huge difference on my skin. I use a few drops after I moisturize with the Ultra Repair Cream each night. The oil helps seal in the moisture so that my skin stays hydrated all night. I was a little hesitant to try an oil but I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a boost of hydration.
Dry skin - Glam Glow
My last skincare product is the GlamGlow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment. This is a mud mask that I wear overnight a couple times a week when I need a boost of hydration. The mask smells amazing, like coconut and sunscreen and the beach. It sinks into the skin quickly and I wake up with the softest skin. While you can use the mask alone, I like to layer it under my moisturizer and even sometimes also with the oil. The mask is pricey but it lasts forever and is so worth the money.

Dry skin - body butter
For my body, I like to use The Body Shop’s Body Butter. The body butter is thick and creamy and keeps my skin hydrated for more than 24 hours. I prefer body butters to lotions because they last longer and hydrate better. The Body Shop’s body butters come in a ton of scents, from fruity to floral to earthy. Keep an eye out for sales because you can almost always find The Body Shop products for half price. Last time I was in there I bought six (yes, six) because they were buy 3, get 3 free. Smoky Poppy is a new, limited edition scent that I highly recommend.
Dry skin - Nuxe
Finally, the lips. While I’m a Burt’s Bees girl through and through, I wanted something more intense to wear overnight. I’d heard about the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm through some British beauty bloggers and finally found it in Chicago at the flagship Walgreens. This lip balm is super thick. It smells lightly of lemon and is a little gritty at first until you rub it into the lips. It stays on the lips all night and I can still feel it when I wake up in the morning. I’ve been using this every night since June and I’m not even halfway through the pot. I’m definitely going to restock when I’m in Chicago again this summer so I won’t have to worry about running out.

These are the five products I’ve found that have helped save my dry skin this winter. Let me know if you have any essential products for winter!

PS Stay tuned for my go-to eye look later this week!

January Favorites

January Faves - all

Hello there! For my first post I’m going to discuss my January favorites. I picked up quite a few goodies over Christmas and in the sales before and after the holidays and these are the items I’ve consistently picked up and used throughout the month. There’s definitely a theme here of glow-y products because my skin gets so dry and dull during the winter months. I’m always looking for something to help perk up my skin!

January Faves - Hourglass Palette

My first and most favorite item is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I finally got my hands on this palette during the Sephora VIB sale and it is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. My favorite powder is Dim Light (left most powder). I use this as an all-over setting powder. I don’t know how it works, but it leaves my skin looking flawless and airbrushed. Incandescent Light (center) is a wonderful highlight but isn’t too shimmery. I haven’t used Radiant Light (right) much yet but I think it will be a great light bronzer for this summer.

January Faves - Hourglass blush

Next is another Hourglass product, Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure. This is the perfect winter blush. It’s a beautiful plum shade that goes on slightly warmer than it looks in the pan. Like the Ambient Lighting Powders, this blush leaves the skin glowing. It goes on smooth and lasts all day. Sephora is including this in their Color of the Year selections so this is a great choice if you’re looking to jump on the Marsala train.

January Faves - S&G

I have become obsessed with highlighters over the past year and MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle is my new baby. I’ve had my eye on this highlighter for a while now and finally bought it at a MAC counter a few weeks ago. I apply it using a mini fan brush and it gives the perfect, subtle glow to my cheekbones. Highlighters are a great investment because you only need the tiniest amount to completely change your look.

January Faves - BTS

My favorite mascara in January was Too Faced Better Than Sex. This is my go-to mascara when I need outrageous lashes. The jumbo brush makes sure each lash is coated. The formula is a little on the wet side but it gives the most beautiful volume and length. I usually use at least two coats, or three if I’m feeling bold. The mascara stays on all day but comes off easily at night with a gentle cleansing oil or eye makeup remover. This is one of my all time favorite mascaras and I’ll continue repurchasing as long as I can.

January Faves - lumi primer

My final face product I’ve been using to combat dull skin recently is L’Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer. I can’t say for sure whether this makes my makeup last longer, but it gives my skin a great glow without making me look oily. I use this all over the face after my moisturizer but before my foundation.

January Faves - S&G scrub

My final favorite is Soap & Glory Pulp Friction Body Scrub. I have super dry skin on my arms and legs and this scrub is tough enough to slough off all the dead skin without being too harsh. The scrub smells amazing (as all Soap & Glory products do). It’s fruity without being too sweet. I use this every time I shower and it keeps my skin soft and smooth.

That’s it for my January favorites! Let me know what your favorites were last month and any suggestions you have for products, posts, or reviews!
